Camping

So, we took our two kiddos camping up to Flagstaff Lake in Maine for a couple of days (two days, one night to be exact - Tuesday and Wednesday).  We arrived after driving in the sprinkling rain and with threatening clouds above us.  We pitched the tent and a tarp just before the rain came down a little harder - hard enough to put out the little fire that I had started.  But, after a while, the rain subsided and the rest of our stay was very nice.

The nice thing about staying at Flagstaff is that there is a lake to canoe in and it has a mountain right next to it for hiking.  We did a little of both hiking and canoeing, which Liliana loved.  (Just a
side note - we started up the mountain, not with the intent to climb all the way up, but only made it about a half mile after turning back).

Liliana loved helping Heather make pasta alfredo on the camp-stove and loved making smores on the campfire.  This was Liliana's first time around a campfire and she found it fascinating.  She was very helpful in finding lots of twigs and branches to throw in it.

Mattie also enjoyed the trip - mostly because of all the new things that she found on the ground to stuff into her mouth: twigs, pine
needles, leaves, pine cones, and so forth.  She also loved being in the canoe, though she kept on trying to climb over the side to get to the water.  Thankfully, Heather stayed in the middle of the canoe to keep a hold of her.

We all had a great time, but we are all grateful to be back home.

Hey! What's that little blonde creature crawling around at the campsite? That CAN'T be Mattie already! What in the heck are you feeding that kid?!

Oh, and the camping stuff looks like fun too. I think we're not going to go that route until the girls are older, pottie trained and able to sleep in anything without bars. Although, if they would sleep while stuck to the tarp by a mass of duct tape that might again be an option...
